The steps for success are straight forward: 

  • type quickly and accurately

  • build an error free portfolio of writing samples

  • read a few books as if you were a Technical Writer

  • know the basics of the software you'll need

  • buy cool Technical Writer's garb (...ahem, an optional step added to make you cool and popular)

Then take the leap and get your first job.
